Willowdale
The owners of this house was looking for a contemporary design that would be unique and sleek.
So we recommended a hand drawn design from our catalogue, and to the request of the owner made some modifications to it.
He opted to for 5″ newel posts with 3″ profile oak hand rails. So we set the posts in first and then we fabricated the railings at our shop and had them painted then attached them to the posts. Â The addition of wood components to the hand rail system would distinguish it from exterior railings.
Where posts were not required we simply welded the railings at the corners to give it a smooth and consistent look.
We used 5/8″ square bars and to get the desired shape we heated the bars until they were malleable enough to bend them into a U shape.
The 2″ metal posts were screwed into the stairs, and a cap was used to hide the screws.
For the exterior, the railings were galvanized and powder coated to give it protection against the elements. Cast iron posts added an extra dimension to exterior railings.
The railings were welded together, and to the cast iron posts to make them sturdy and ever lasting.
